AtScale expands internationally, appoints North America and Europe leader

AtScale announced today that it appointed David Whitwell as its Vice President of Eastern US and Europe Sales.

SAN MATEO, Calif., Aug. 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — AtScale, the first company to bring the power of Hadoop to business users, announced today that it appointed David Whitwell as its Vice President of Eastern US and Europe Sales. As part of this new appointment, AtScale is opening a new office in New York to host David’s current team and new hires.

Whitwell is an experienced sales executive who helped companies like Cloudera, Salesforce and SuccessFactors become dominant players in their market. During his tenure at Cloudera, the company acquired some of the largest financial services in the world as customers and it doubled its business reach in Europe.

“David brings an incredible amount of credibility and experience. He’s an industry powerhouse, and he is the perfect leader to bring on board as we expand our footprint across the nation and into Europe,” said Dave Mariani, CEO and Founder at AtScale.

Transformational Technology, Impeccable Timing
Whitwell, who has witnessed many technology shifts throughout his career, notes that, up until now, the Business Intelligence market has been disconnected from the Hadoop opportunity: “Companies that want to connect business users to Hadoop today still have to hire developers to custom-code access, move data around or buy first-generation Hadoop-only BI tools.” He continues: “But every enterprise I know wants their people to have seamless and secure self-serve access to data. They want it now, with minimal rework, using the tools and infrastructure they already have in place. AtScale is the only company that can deliver on that promise.”

AtScale has enjoyed an unusual amount of interest since it launched earlier this year. Jerry Yang (Yahoo! co-founder) and Amr Awadallah (Cloudera co-founder) joined the Series A round the company announced in June. Partners like Microsoft and Tableau have participated in AtScale’s traction and the company was singled out by CRN in July 2015 as a “Top Company to Watch.”

Additionally, AtScale technological advantage has been amplified by three key factors: strong community support for BI-on-Hadoop, the growing adoption of Hadoop in the enterprise and the strong motivation vendors and users have to connect BI to Hadoop.

“AtScale has emerged at the perfect time,” said Whitwell, “it’s exciting to be part of company that has the right architectural choice, the right timing and the rest of the industry supporting its vision and message.”
