AtScale and Grok: The Comprehensive Guide

How to connect Grok to AtScale’s semantic layer, so the number it puts in your app is the one Finance already published.

Grok 4.3 is one of the strongest LLMs available. Ask it what you booked in the Northeast last quarter, though, and it’ll usually get the number wrong. Finance defines bookings one way and the Power BI dataset defines it another, so Grok picks whichever column name looks closest. Grok brings the reasoning. Your semantic model brings the definitions. This guide explains why the semantic model decides the number as frontier models converge, then shows how to connect every Grok surface to AtScale.

What you’ll learn:

  1. Why the advantage moves to the semantic model as frontier models converge, and why the definitions most enterprises already keep in Power BI, dbt, and spreadsheets disagree with each other.
  2. How AtScale Ava resolves a prompt before anything computes. If your semantic model has five kinds of revenue, Ava asks whether you mean recognized revenue, bookings, net sales, ARR, or total contract value, then saves the answer as a rule.
  3. ACE, the AI Computation Engine, computes each metric on the platform you already run. Grok doesn’t write the SQL, so the same question returns the same number every time. Cost per right answer fell about 21% across the seven LLMs AtScale tested (preliminary).
  4. How to connect Grok CLI in about ten minutes, then add Grok on the web as a custom connector. In Grok Build, the AtScale plugin puts Finance’s own metric definitions inside the development loop.
  5. Why connecting Grok doesn’t widen anyone’s access. You sign in as yourself, and warehouse credentials never leave AtScale.
