Our Team:

You’ll be working on the Backend Development team with other engineers, designers, technical writers, and product managers. The Backend Team is responsible for the heart of the AtScale Virtual Data Warehouse, including query processing, the automated creation and maintenance of intelligent aggregate tables, and data security and governance. The Backend Software Engineer will solve real computer science problems involving the design and implementation of algorithms ranging from NP complete graph theory problems, through statistics based learning algorithms, all written in-house using functional programming paradigms.

AtScale’s engineering team is spread across offices in San Mateo, California, and Sofia, Bulgaria. Our tight-knit team structure provides ample opportunities for mentorship, increased knowledge of Scala, and valuable experience writing code which is executed within a highly concurrent, distributed environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides for the ongoing operations, availability and stability for infrastructure and services as servers health, network, and storage equipment to support IT processing requirements and business directives
  • Build, maintain and use monitoring capabilities
  • Troubleshoot technical issues to establish the root cause of problems and form a solution or workaround.
  • Reproduce/Debug issues and as necessary file bug reports, escalate cases to core engineering, and provide the necessary documentation.
  • Ability to isolate problems between hardware and software and provide information to the appropriate engineering team(s)

 

Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge and experience in Linux, SQL, MDX, database concepts and data modeling.
  • Working knowledge in monitoring capabilities
  • Experience with, Git, Docker, AWS
  • Knowledge of system administration.Strong knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, etc.) and the ability to troubleshoot complex networking issues in a Linux environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Grafana and Kibana
  • Strong in problem-solving and logical thinking
  • Experience with Linux at a systems administration level
  • Self-motivated with a strong desire to quickly learn and pick up new technical concepts
  • Previous experience in NOC/Support would be considered as an advantage
  • Passionate, enthusiastic, energetic team player
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and need to able to answer questions directly

 

Our technology:

You will be working on a stack that largely involves Scala, and you will gain deep hands-on experience with key enterprise technologies such as Google BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, Snowflake, and Hadoop. You will also have the opportunity to work with Business Intelligence tools that speak SQL and MDX, and any other tools and technologies that the AtScale product connects do.

AtScale engineers use git and Github for source code control, Slack for internal communications, Docker for development environments, Jenkins for builds, and Lenovo, HP and Macbook Pros as work machines.
