AtScale Insights Data Dictionary - Attributes, Dimensions and Measure Definitions

Below are Data Insights workbooks, and file downloads for Tableau users.

All other tools will access the updated models when they connect using the instructions below.

AtScale Insights Workbooks

These workbooks have pre-built dashboards to jumpstart your analysis. The download includes workbooks for Tableau, Excel and Microsoft Power BI and are updated frequently.

CONNECTING TO ATSCALE FROM TABLEAU BY USING A TABLEAU DATA SOURCE (TDS) FILE

Tableau data source files have the .tds file extension. Data source files are shortcuts for quickly connecting to data sources from Tableau Desktop. We have provided a TDS file with the connection details for the OLAP model.

1.  Make sure you have Cloudera’s Hive ODBC driver installed (for macOS or Windows). Once installed, move on to step 2

2.  Double-click the .tds file of the model you’d like to analyze. Doing so launches the Tableau Desktop application

3.  Enter your AtScale username and password, and click OK

4. If the connection is successful, the Tableau worksheet will open showing the Data available in the AtScale cube. Drag one dimension and one measure to Columns and Rows to run a test query

 

 

 

CONNECTING TO ATSCALE FROM EXCEL (Windows)

1.  Open Excel and create a blank workbook

2.  Click “Data:From Other Sources: From Analysis Services”

 

3.  In the Data Connection Wizard Enter the Server name, Username and Password
Server Name: http://covid19.atscale.com:10502/xmla/default
Username & Password: Provided by AtScale in email

 

4.  Choose the AtScale Cube you would like to access

 

5.  Import Data into PivotTable Report

 

6.  Query the data by choosing the PivotTable Fields

 

7.  Repeat the process in new worksheets to add connections to additional cubes

 

 

CONNECTING TO ATSCALE FROM POWER BI

1. Open Microsoft PowerBI

 

2. Select Get data: More from the menu

3. Choose the “Atscale Cubes” Connector, and Connect

 

4. Select Continue from the “Connecting to a third-party service” dialogue box

 

5. Enter the connection information for AtScale cubes:

a) Server:  http://covid19.atscale.com:10502/xmla/default

b) Data Connectivity Mode:  DirectQuery

 

6. Enter your username and password

 

7. Use the Navigator to select the AtScale COVID-19 US cube and load

 

 

 

CONNECTING TO ATSCALE FROM LOOKER

1. You’ll receive a separate email from Looker to “Activate Your Account”

 

2. Click on the link in the email, and follow the instructions to create a Looker account

3. Once the account is created, you’ll be automatically logged in to http://atscale.looker.com

4. Click on “Explore” at the top of the screen to access the COVID-19 model.

Installing Cloudera ODBC Driver for Apache HIVE on MacOS

1.  Download appropriate driver for Cloudera ODBC Driver for Apache Hive:

1a.  Tableau 2019.2.4, 2019.1.8, and 2018.3.11 Desktop and Server require driver version 2.06.04.1004
1b. Earlier versions of Tableau Desktop can use driver version 2.05.16.1005

 

2.  Open the downloaded file (ClouderaHiveODBC.dmg).

 

3.  You will receive the following warning:

 

4.  Open your System Preferences / Security & Privacy:

 

5. On the “General” tab of the Security and Privacy panel, click the button “Open Anyway”.

6.  The package will open with the following message.  Click Continue.

 

7. The Cloudera ODBC Driver for Apache Hive Installer will open. Follow the prompts through the install wizard.

 

8. The driver for Hive ODBC is now successfully installed on Mac OS.

 

 

 

 

Installing Cloudera ODBC Driver for Apache HIVE on Windows

1.  Download appropriate driver for Cloudera ODBC Driver for Apache Hive:

1a.Tableau 2019.2.4, 2019.1.8, and 2018.3.11 Desktop and Server require driver version 2.06.04.1004

1b.Earlier versions of Tableau Desktop can use driver version 2.05.16.1005

 

2. Open the downloaded file and the install wizard begins.

 

3. Step through the install wizard.

 

4. The Cloudera ODBC Hive Driver is installed.
