Microsoft and AtScale Team Up to Offer Big Data Analytics in the Cloud

AtScale Expands its BI on Hadoop Offering to the Cloud, Adds Support for Microsoft HDInsight

SAN FRANCISCO, July 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ – AtScale, Inc. announced today that they are working in collaboration with Microsoft to add the AtScale Intelligence Platform to HDInsight. By deploying AtScale on HDInsight, customers can connect any Business Intelligence (BI) tool to Hadoop in minutes, not weeks or months.

The AtScale Intelligence platform is one of the first solutions to enable the most common BI tools to interact natively with Hadoop without compromising data fidelity or performance. When companies deploy AtScale, business users can run reports across billions of rows, at top speed, from the tools they already know, such as Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Power BI. IT groups can provision a Hadoop cluster with full OLAP capabilities in minutes using HDInsight and AtScale.

“Clients are definitely anxious to find a competitive advantage with Hadoop and HDInsight removes the first barrier of getting started. Once started, clients quickly want to know how their business analysts can tap into the large pool of data without having to learn Hadoop, this is where AtScale comes in,” says Steve Palmer, Avanade senior vice president global Data & Analytics. Avanade is a global business technology consulting firm specializing in cloud, digital and managed services. With more than 25,000 professionals in 70 locations and 22 countries, the firm has one of the largest Business Intelligence practices in the industry.

A Simple Solution to a Complex Problem

“Azure HDInsight gives customers a simply provisioned and fully managed Hadoop solution in the cloud for ramping up Hadoop clusters within minutes” said Tiffany Wissner, senior director of data platform marketing at Microsoft. “We’re thrilled to work with AtScale to enable HDInsight customers to perform rapid OLAP-based analytics over their big data for faster insights.”

The demand for turnkey “BI on Hadoop” solutions has grown tremendously over the last few years. In a recent research report by Allied Market, the Hadoop-as-a-service market was projected to grow to $16.1B by 2020, showcasing a compound annual growth rate of 70.8%.

“We are really excited to work with Microsoft,” says Dave Mariani, who started AtScale to put Hadoop into the hands of the business user. Prior to AtScale, Mariani worked at Yahoo! where his team processed more than 30 billion events per day in Hadoop. At Klout, his group managed a 200-node Hadoop cluster that powered a one trillion-row data warehouse. “Providing a turnkey solution that makes Hadoop a reality for everyone is our goal,” he concludes.

Microsoft also invited AtScale to present and expo its solution at the Worldwide Partner Conference this past week, an event that gathered 16,000 of Microsoft’s 640,000 worldwide partners. To find out more, go to AtScale.com/try
